Humans Connect: Convince in Presence
By Therese Hensler, MSW, LCSW

“I and mine do not convince by arguments, similes, rhymes; We convince by our presence.”
Walt Whitman.

Life’s journey is full of uncertainty, unpredictable moments of joy and sorrow. The most impactful moments are shared among meaningful relationships. We are hardwired to have connection with others. However, honoring ourselves emotionally, while honoring the other person can be difficult. When we are able to sit in moments of vulnerability, we can be open to our own presence while also being open to the person we are in relationship with. Although we don’t have control over how another person reacts, we have the ability to impact the situation with our own presence. We are all worthy of having joy in the presence of ourselves.
