Starting therapy can bring up uncertainty and that’s okay. Whether you’ve never worked with a therapist before or you’re returning to care, I want you to feel informed, comfortable, and clear about what it means to begin this journey.
Below are questions I often hear, along with thoughtful resources to help you explore what might be right for you.
Is therapy right for me?
People seek therapy for many reasons—some for relief from anxiety, trauma, or depression; others for support navigating a life transition, relationship stress, or parenting challenges. Some simply feel stuck and want to reconnect with themselves.
If you’ve been wondering, “Is this all there is?” or “Can I feel more at peace in my own life?”—therapy can help you find your answer.
How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?
I believe that therapy works best when it feels safe, collaborative, and real. My style is both compassionate and practical. I’ll bring presence, curiosity, and skill into our sessions while honoring your story and pacing.
In our free phone consultation, we’ll talk briefly about what you’re looking for, and I’ll let you know if I think my approach is a good fit. If not, I’ll help point you in the right direction.
How can therapy help me?
Depending on what you’re working through, therapy might help you:
-
- Process grief or trauma
- Build emotional regulation tools
- Break free from old patterns
- Strengthen your relationships
- Reconnect with purpose and self-trust
- Reduce stress and anxiety
- Develop self-compassion
- Create healthy boundaries
- Parent with intention and clarity
Ultimately, therapy isn’t about fixing you—it’s about helping you come home to yourself.
Do I really need therapy? I usually manage on my own.
You’re not alone in feeling this way. Many of my clients are capable, thoughtful people who’ve simply reached a point where what used to work…doesn’t anymore. Asking for help isn’t a weakness, it’s an act of strength and self-awareness.
What about medication?
While medication can be an important part of treatment for some, therapy helps address the root causes and not just the symptoms. I’m happy to collaborate with your doctor or psychiatrist if needed, and will always support an integrative approach to wellness.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. What you share in therapy is protected by law and held with the highest respect for your privacy. Exceptions include:
-
- Risk of harm to self or others
- Suspected abuse of a child, elder, or vulnerable adult
If any of these arise, I’ll be transparent with you and work to ensure your safety.
